Ride: Go Where Scotland Air Maiden MTB Guided Ride Out for Women – Half Day

Overview: Women may be in the minority on the UK’s mountain bike trails but with more of us taking to the sport each year, there’s a growing community of like-minded ladies who are looking to push themselves further. If you fancy joining a group of rad ladies for a ride out on the bikes, Aneela McKenna from Go Where Scotland and Lynne Armstrong from Air Maiden will be sampling the incredible riding of Deeside from ribbons of sweet single track to ancient drove roads and long forgotten tracks. Pick up hints and tips along the way on being more mountain savvy – planning for big mountain rides, learn trail repairs, and riding more confidently. Finishing an awesome ride with tea and cake back in Braemar.

Essentials: suitable warm clothing, gloves, helmets, waterproofs and backpack for carrying spare clothing, food snacks and water.
The ride is suitable for someone with minimum technical ability level 2/ endurance ability level 2 (http://go-where.co.uk/trip-grading/)
With the time of year, the event could be cancelled due to weather conditions. Participants will be notified by the event organisers in advance.

Juliana bicycles demo bikes available. Contact Aneela McKenna (aneela@go-where.co.uk) if you wish to book a bike. Bikes are on a first come first served basis. For those who have booked demo bikes, please arrive early (9.00am – 9.30am) to be setup.

Talk: ‘Around the world singlespeed’ with Markus Stitz

Speaker Biography: Markus Stitz
Overview: From 3 Sep 2015 till 27 Aug 2016 Markus Stitz rode around the world with only one gear on his bike, a customised Surly Ogre. During his journey he saw the Aurora Borealis in Iceland, braved minus 17C in New Mexico, pushed up the world’s steepest street in Dunedin, crossed the Australian Outback, cycled through 40 C in Thailand, climbed up to 3150 m in Iran, cycled the Anatolian Highlands and the Alps and rode the famous cobbles of Flanders. All to prove that it can be done. One gear is enough to cycle the world.

‘warm, engaging and fun, with an infectious enthusiasm that had the audience charmed from beginning to end. Watch out for this guy … he’ll be tearing up the adventure film festival circuit for many years to come!’
(Rich Rowe, Peebles Outdoor Film Festival)

More information about Markus and his journey can be found online at www.markusstitz.com
