Festival Launch and Concert

Overview: Join us to launch the 2019 edition of the Braemar Mountain Festival, celebrated with a concert and exhibition centred around the history of the Braemar Mountain Rescue Team. The concert, “What a story a pair of boots could tell”, is a collaboration between composer Adam Sutherland and local musicians, driven by stories, photos and other artefacts from past and present members of the team.

Adam Sutherland, from the shores of Loch Ness, is one of Scotland’s most highly regarded fiddlers and composers. He has a score of awards to his name not least the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards ‘Composer of the Year’ 2017 and is recognised as an inspiring tutor and workshop leader at his own fiddle school.

‘This exciting collaboration in partnership with St Margaret’s Braemar and with generous support from Aberdeenshire Council has allowed me to tap into and weave together some huge sources of inspiration; the rugged beauty of the highlands, and real stories about the vital life saving work of mountain rescue in around Braemar over the decades.’

Please note that although a free event, space is limited and tickets will be required for the allocation of concert seats.

During the summer of 2016 Di Gilbert was Expedition Leader with the first British Expedition to K2 for the first time in 12 years. Di’s talk will follow her and her team from the hustle of Islamabad, through the journey to base camp to the highs and lows of a team trying to climb what is statistically the most dangerous 8000m peak there is.
