Derek Edge has been enjoying the mountains of Scotland and the Alps since moving from Yorkshire to Aberdeenshire in 1979. During that time he has walked most of the munros, climbed in both winter and summer (preferring winter as there are no midges) and scrambled up and down a few ridges.

During 16 years in the Territorial Army he qualified as a map reading instructor and became a Joint Service Mountain Expedition Leader (Summer). He passed his Summer Mountain Leader Award in 2013 and has since assisted Mountaineering Scotland with its annual student safety weekend. During the week he is a Chartered Accountant but spends most weekends in Braemar with his family.
